Schade and Bolender Architects LLP was established in 1996 by Rachel Simmons Schade and Kiki Bolender. Ms. Schade had been a sole proprietor since 1987. Ms. Bolender had worked as a sole proprietor for several years and with a small firm for six years prior to the formation of the partnership. Both partners are deeply committed to balancing the practice of architecture with a commitment to the community through civic activities.
Schade and Bolender Architects assist their clients in making smart decisions about where and how to build in order to minimize negative affects on the environment. Building materials are selected from ecologically sustainable sources, along with mechanical systems that use less energy, plumbing fixtures that conserve water, and interior finishes that do not emit volatile gasses. Concern for the long term health and well-being of the building occupants and of the planet are basic to the process of design.
In March of 2004, Philadelphia Magazine identified the firm as one of twelve leading small design firms in the city.
Schade and Bolender Architects is a full service architecture firm that has developed solid working relationships with clients, consultants and builders to produce a diverse mix of projects for institutional and residential clients. The partners devote personal attention throughout each project, and are known for their ability to listen carefully and produce creative solutions to complex projects.
Historic preservation is integral to the work of the firm, since many of the projects are located in the historic districts of Philadelphia and the suburbs. The partners have extensive experience working with Philadelphia Historical Commission and the Zoning Board of Review.
The firm is licensed to practice architecture in Deleware, Maryland,
New Jersey and Pennsylvania
Schade and Bolender Architects is a 100% women owned business and is a registered Women's Business Enterprise with the City of Philadelphia.
